In 1837 the Rochester (563 ton) was launched from the Levi Houghton Shipyard in Bath. and was engaged in the Atlantic trade.

In 1850 the Rochester was sold to the L.F. Kalkmann Co. of Bremen, and renamed Bremerhaven. The German owners used the ship as an emigre ship, carrying immigrants from Europe to the United States.

In 1862 the Bremerhaven was responsible for saving 14 people from the collision of the French brig Nouveau St. Jacques and the American ship Northern Light.

The last recorded voyage of the Bremerhaven was in 1877, from London to New York.
